Nestled along the wooded banks of Yellow Creek at Thruston, Kentucky.
Yellow Creek Park provides a picturesque multi-faceted 119 1/2 acres
of recreational and leisure challenges. The acreage features hiking trails,
multi-purpose sports areas, a one room refurbished African American school house.
As well as a look-out tower, a swinging bridge, outdoor pavilions with playground
equipment, restrooms and an area: of historic artifacts as depicted in our picnic
tables and rustic seating. These tables are made of huge Limestone blocks
that were quarried long before the Civil War.
Habitat and trail info: The park also boasts two reconstructed covered bridges over Yellow Creek, a restored iron bridge circa 1800's that once spanned Panther Creek. This bridge serves as an elegant entrance to a 51 1/2 acre nature explorer's dream. Either with a friend or by yourself for a quiet moment, the sights and sounds of nature surround you. Our winding trails are color coded and take you through an upland forest of oak, hickory, scotch pine, and red maple. Vines such as Virginia Creeper and Bitter Sweet grow in profusion. The cascading waterfall makes this park appealing to photographers, and the romancing freshwater lake, despite its small size, is home to a surprising variety of plants and animals.
Wildlife Viewing Opportunities: Bird watching and identification, walks, astronomy, wildlife programs, or learning about butterflies, bees, or frogs, all help you appreciate the great out-of-doors.
